Bouncing back from their derby defeat, Zvezda dismantled Maccabi in Round 8 to secure their fifth win of the EuroLeague season. More importantly, Ibon Navarro's side uncovered a new powerhouse and a true starting center in Christian Koloko.

The Cameroonian big man joined the red-and-whites just a few days ago, leaving fans intrigued yet uncertain despite impressive highlight reels and glowing expert endorsements.

Now, it is abundantly clear that Zvezda hit the jackpot straight out of the NBA.

Koloko's Dominant Debut

Koloko was in the starting lineup from the opening tip, with Ibon Navarro trusting him right away—and it took less than 60 seconds for the center to leave a lasting impression.

On the very first possession, he grabbed a high alley-oop feed from Chris Jones and slammed it home to electrify the Arena, before following it up with a smooth mid-range jumper on the next trip down the floor.

Although his final offensive tally of six points might not leap off the box score, Koloko excelled in all the little things that don't show up in the stats. His sheer physical presence and massive wingspan rattled Maccabi's offense, constantly forcing them to look for alternative scoring options. Time and again, Koloko altered shot trajectories at the rim, resulting in empty trips for the visitors.

Koloko also showcased a high basketball IQ, rapidly absorbing Zvezda's offensive sets and the core defensive principles preached by Ibon Navarro, proving it won't take him long to reach peak form. In truth, he has already provided a thrilling preview of his capabilities.

Zvezda had long been searching for a premier starting center. Ebuka Izundu, despite his strengths, was not that caliber of player, and Johnathan Motley's early-season displays gave little cause for optimism to the Mali Kalemegdan faithful. In contrast, Koloko won the fanbase over in just 60 seconds.

The former Lakers center possesses the pedigree to transform Zvezda's campaign and elevate an already competitive roster to new heights through his commanding interior presence—something the red-and-whites had sorely lacked until now.
