As we all know by now, Nigeria crashed out of the 2014 Brazil World Cup having made it to the final 16 and while Nigeria tried to put up a good fight at the World Cup, this is far from the case back home.

With mounting security issues and unemployment rates, Nigeria is currently going through what is perhaps one of its most trying times a nation.

Measured against one of its field opponents, Argentina, for instance, Nigeria falls behind with Argentina boasting a GDP of $793.779 billion (standing as 22nd in the world) as against Nigeria's $521.359 billion (standing at 30th in the world). According to the World Economic Forum, Argentina also boasts a trade openness of 53% as against Nigeria's 43%.

Ahead of the 2014 Brazil World Cup, the World Economic Forum had put together an infographics of how Nigeria fares in the socio-economic space against their opponents at the games.
