World Cup Prize Money | Spain and Argentina Vie for Record Sum, Netherlands Head Home with Millions
FIFA, the global football governing body, has further increased the prize money for this World Cup. A proposal was approved at a congress in Vancouver. In December, FIFA had already announced that this year's World Cup prize money would be 50 percent higher than the previous tournament, but an additional fifteen percent has now been added. The total amount stands at 744 million euros.
Record Revenue
FIFA informed Reuters that the prize money for all 48 participating nations was increased. This comes as the global federation expects to generate a record 11 billion dollars (9.5 billion euros) in revenue between 2023 and 2026.
"FIFA is proud to be in its strongest financial position ever, allowing us to support all our member associations in an unprecedented way. This is yet another example of how FIFA's resources are reinvested into the sport," said President Gianni Infantino.
Spain and Argentina Battle for Millions
After 102 matches, the finalists have been determined. Spain comfortably defeated top favorites France 2-0, while Argentina, with Lionel Messi, kept their hopes alive for a second consecutive world title. After falling behind 1-0, the Argentinians secured a 2-1 victory, thanks to two assists from the football maestro himself. Thus, they will compete for a multi-million euro prize.
World Cup Prize Money
Due to the excellent financial figures, enormous sums will be distributed at the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. All 48 countries received 2 million euros just for preparation and associated costs. The 'lowest' amount a country could receive as a result was 10.5 million euros.

Dutch National Team
The Netherlands was eliminated in the Round of 32 by Morocco after a penalty shootout. Oranje therefore earned 9.4 million euros from that result, with an additional 2 million euros for preparation costs. The Moroccan team won a round later against Canada and is therefore in the quarterfinals. They are already guaranteed 18.2 million euros in prize money, an amount that can only increase.
