Manchester City midfielder Rodri is scheduled for back surgery next week. The 30-year-old Spanish international and World Cup-winning captain will be sidelined for an unspecified period.

Despite battling various health issues last season, Rodri ultimately helped Spain clinch the World Cup title in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The long-serving Citizens' stalwart's contract is set to expire after the 2026/2027 season, but new manager Enzo Maresca is keen for Rodri to continue his playing career at the Etihad Stadium.

“There are always speculations surrounding great players. It's normal because he's a world champion. He's one of the best players, and I think every coach would want Rodri. He's now facing surgery and needs to rest. He'll recover and then be back with us,” Maresca was quoted by the AP agency.
