A 24-year-old technician, Solomon Manfred, on Tuesday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly burning his colleague’s cheek with a hot pressing iron during argument over seniority.

Manfred is facing a two-count charge of assault and inflicting injury, but he pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Ben Ekundayo, the defendant burnt Mr Success Ezinmorun’s cheek and hand with a hot iron while they were about to put on their work clothes at their workplace.

“A fight ensued over seniority, and Manfred who was ironing his clothe at that moment, beat up Ezinmorun and burnt his right cheek and hand with the hot iron,” he said.

Ekundayo said that the defendant committed the offences on March 15 at 7:00pm. at Churchgate building, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The prosecutor noted that the offences contravened Sections 172 and 244 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.M. Olumide-Fusika, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Olumide-Fusika ordered that the surety should be a relative of the defendant.

The case was adjourned until May 6 for mention.
