A free throw, a ball out of play, and an object no one expected to see on a basketball court. The game between the Los Angeles Sparks and the Atlanta Dream took an unusual turn when a sex toy was thrown from the stands onto the playing area.
The incident occurred during the third quarter as Jihyun Park of the Sparks prepared to take a free throw. With the Dream already leading 84-53, the green object landed in the middle of the court, forcing a brief stoppage in play.
Players openly displayed their surprise at the situation. Television broadcasts even captured Angel Reese, from the Atlanta team, pointing towards the stands, seemingly to identify the person responsible for throwing the object.
Images circulating on social media also show an individual being approached and restrained by arena security personnel. However, the WNBA has yet to officially comment on the incident or confirm if any arrests were made.
The episode ultimately became just another footnote in a night to forget for the Sparks, who suffered a heavy 124-88 defeat.
