The first Englishman to officiate a World Cup final in 36 years has retired from the game which gave him recognition and respect.

Howard Webb confirmed his retirement from on FIFA.com: Webb told FIFA.com

The 43 year-old Webb officiated the games involving Colombia-Côte d'Ivoire and Brazil-Chile at the Brazil 2014 World Cup which adds up to the 21 appearances at FIFA tournaments.

FIFA's head of Refereeing Massimo Busacca had some words of congratulation for the newly appointed technical director of refereeing in England.

He takes role as the technical director of Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), The organization which governs the referees in England.
