Andrea Kimi Antonelli was unable to wrap up the Formula 1 World Championship despite his victory at the United States Grand Prix, but the Italian will have a second chance to seal the title at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
To secure the crown, he must leave the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez with a lead of at least 100 points over George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. The two British drivers are the only contenders mathematically still in the hunt. The 20-year-old Mercedes driver currently holds a 123-point advantage over teammate Russell, with Hamilton sitting a further point behind.
This leaves Antonelli with a relatively straightforward task in Mexico, as a top-nine finish guarantees him the title regardless of where Russell and Hamilton cross the line. Should the Italian finish 10th, he will secure the championship as long as Russell does not win. If he fails to score points, neither Russell nor Hamilton must win for Antonelli to be crowned champion at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
How Kimi Antonelli can seal the championship in Mexico:
Antonelli is crowned champion if he finishes in the top 9
If Antonelli finishes 10th, Russell must not win
If Antonelli finishes outside the top 10, neither Russell nor Hamilton must win
