On Wednesday evening, the French squad landed in Belgrade and proceeded to their hotel, where chaos ensued both inside and out. A large crowd of children gathered to greet the French players, especially Wembanyama, who ultimately showed them immense respect.

The San Antonio Spurs star greeted everyone and posed for photos, even as security repeatedly tried to move the children away, showcasing his class. There's no doubt we'll witness a fantastic game in the Arena on Thursday.

Wembanyama Named France Captain

Victor Wembanyama, the primary star of the San Antonio Spurs and French basketball, has been appointed the new captain of the French national team ahead of the upcoming fourth window of qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA World Cup.

This recognition for the young talent, who is already pushing boundaries in the NBA, was confirmed by the French Basketball Federation, with the NBA itself extending official congratulations. Wembanyama will now assume a leadership role for the national team, wearing the captain's armband in their continued quest for World Cup qualification.

Ahead of their World Cup qualifying matches, France will visit Serbia in a friendly game at the Belgrade Arena on Thursday at 8 PM. This will mark the first time the popular "Wemby" will captain the "Les Bleus."

Additionally, our national team will play France again on Sunday, this time as visitors, in a match scheduled for 6 PM.

In the fourth window of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers, France is competing in a newly formed group in the second round of qualification.

The national team led by Victor Wembanyama will compete against Estonia and Slovenia. Also in their group are Finland, Hungary, and Sweden, whom they have already faced in previous qualifying stages.

The French had an excellent first phase of qualifications, finishing first in their group with five wins and only one loss. Their sole slip-up came on the road against Finland, while they routinely handled Hungary and Belgium, carrying maximum points into the next round.
