Different species of birds have their own migration strategy. Many birds migrate to escape winter, some to find food and others for breeding.

Not all birds migrate, but majority of them do. This is how it in the the creative process and self development of artistes in the music industry, many get comfortable in their found fame and output and act like the sedentary birds who never leave home while some in their quest for more migrate.

Waje is a migrating songbird.

On September 10, Waje graced the stage of M.I and 2Baba’s concert ‘Buckwyld and Breathless’ with a diamond encrusted microphone and showcased a whole new side of her encompassing grace, confidence and a melody that seeped right into your heart.

The woman who came up on stage was Aituaje Iruobe, the star we all know as Waje but it was obvious something had happened. The songbird had returned from her migration program with a new action plan - surprise them and give them more of me. As she sang the chorus of M.I's ‘One Naira’ at the event, it was clear the ‘I wish’ crooner had altered her voice! We should have suspected something though as she had put up images of herself with talented British vocalist and voice coach Rachel Kerr on photo/video app Instagram.

We’ve seen foreign artistes like Beyonce alter and grow into her voice, Beyonce and her vocals from when she was in Destiny’s Child to her first album to now are completely different. Her vocals are stronger. Same as Waje, this woman changed the notes and arrangements of her own song 'I wish' and blew minds at  ‘Buckwyld and Breathless’ with her breath control and amazing range of high note. The Pulse Music editor Joey Akan described her actions as ‘vocal acrobatics’ as she took her notes high, low and even bent her voice to her will. Waje - “Words are just not enough” to describe her.

They are here and brewing a storm. We've felt the gust in the last couple of months with Tiwa Savage, her sophomore album release and her signing with Roc Nation. Now Waje is about to bring on the rain.

From when the ‘Ijeoma’ crooner released her single ‘So inspired’ featuring Muna to her self titled debut album “Waje” released in 2013, the singer has shown persistence, growth and has not bowed to the pressures of the Nigerian music industry. With her newly unleashed vocals, it’s possible Waje could be cooking up an album.
