VIDEO: Hojlund outpaces Rúben Dias, equalises and pulls out Ronaldo celebration
Denmark came out firing in the second half against Portugal. Brian Riemer's side needed just a few passes to carve open Portugal's backline and level the score through Rasmus Hojlund in the 53rd minute.
Mikkel Damsgaard, who had netted Denmark's first-half goal, set the Napoli striker clean through with a delightful pass. Hojlund beat Rúben Dias for pace, chipped the ball over Diogo Costa... and pulled out a Cristiano Ronaldo-style celebration.
The Danish forward mimicked the iconic celebration made famous by the Portugal captain—just as he had done on 20 March 2025, in the 69th minute of Portugal's defeat in Copenhagen during the first leg of the Nations League quarter-finals.
Hojlund explained the celebration after the match: "The celebration was for my idol; I didn't do it to mock him or anything like that. Cristiano has had such a massive impact on me and my career..." Cristiano Ronaldo, who started in Copenhagen, felt the celebration "was not out of disrespect."
This time around, the Portuguese star was not involved in the match after leaving the national team camp on Wednesday.
