San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama has been named captain of the French national basketball team for the upcoming international window. This marks the first time he will wear the captain's armband for "Les Bleus."
The basketball star has joined the team's training camp in Orleans, where France is preparing for the continuation of the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
Before the official matches, the French squad will play two friendly games against Nikola Jokic's Serbian team. The first match will take place in Belgrade, with the second held in Orleans. These encounters will serve as a final tune-up for the team before the qualification cycle resumes.
In the previous round of qualifiers, France, under the guidance of Frédéric Fauthoux, secured five wins in six games. Wembanyama did not participate in those matches.
In the upcoming qualification window, the French team will face Slovenia in Paris and Sweden in Stockholm.
