Didier Drogba acknowledges Golden Eaglets striker as he equals World Cup record
Golden Eaglets striker Victor Osimhen has gotten the acknowledgment from his number one role model, Didier Drogba.
The striker who has equaled the long standing FIFA U-17 World goal scoring record told FIFA.com in an interview that he looks up to Drogba.
"Didier Drogba is my role model," he said.
"He represents the kind of player and person I'd like to be. I hope to develop the same ability to use the ball and score important goals. He's an icon, a legend. I'd love to be able to play like him – or even better."
Drogba took to his Twitter account to acknowledge the young striker writing: “Thank you big man and all the best Victor” with the hashtag #africanpride #U17WC.
Following his goal against Mexico, Osimhen now has nine goals in the U-17 World a record previously jointly held by French Florent Sinama Pongolle and Ivorian Souleymane Coulibaly who were top scorers at the global cadet championship at Trinidad & Tobago 2001 and Mexico 2011 respectively.
He will have the chance to break the record of most goals in a single tournament at the FIFA U-17 World Cup when Nigeria face Mali in the final on Sunday, November 8.
