Anichebe will be reuniting with former Everton FC manager, David Moyes, who left the Merseyside club to coach Manchester United.

The striker has been out of a contract since May 2016, after his old team, West Bromwich Albion released him from his contract.

His addition to Sunderland is expected to bolster the performance of the Wearside club, who until his signing had just one senior striker, Jermain Defoe, in the team.

Anichebe, in anticipation of his deal with his new club, had revealed that he is looking forward to learning from the experience of Defoe.

Fabio Borini, another Sunderland striker that could have been relied upon, is facing close to three months on the sidelines due to a groin injury.
