Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has addressed the ongoing engine situation concerning driver Charles Leclerc. Leclerc's upgraded ADUO2 engine sustained significant damage during his crash at Monza, and Vasseur stated he is still unsure if the power unit can be salvaged.

However, Vasseur hinted that Leclerc might soon receive a new engine, which would inevitably lead to a grid penalty.

"We'll see when we have to take Charles' engine change penalty, which is coming," Vasseur explained. "But Baku is a suitable place for such a change."

According to unofficial reports, Ferrari engineers have inspected the damaged engine, including X-ray analysis, and believe it could potentially be reused.

The challenge lies in the regulations prohibiting engine startup outside of the car, meaning no bench testing is allowed. Final confirmation would only come once the engine is installed in Leclerc's car for a race weekend, which, if it malfunctions, would lead to serious complications. This is why Maranello might opt to give Leclerc a completely new engine in Baku.
