Tunisia Once Again Without a Coach After Disastrous World Cup Campaign

Hervé Renard has announced his resignation as head coach of Tunisia following the team's exit from the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Renard's appointment was a curious case, as the previous Tunisian coach, Sabri Lamouchi, led the team in their opening World Cup match, a 5-1 loss to Sweden. Under Renard's guidance, the African side failed to secure a single point in their subsequent two matches, crashing out after further defeats to Japan (4-0) and the Netherlands (3-1).

“Before I leave, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the federation for giving me the opportunity to participate in the 2026 World Cup. It was an honor to wear the colors of Tunisia and to experience this unforgettable journey. I wish the Tunisian team all the best for the future. I am confident that they will continue to grow, bring joy to the entire nation, and write wonderful chapters in their history. Thank you to everyone who was with me throughout this adventure. I wish you all great success in the future. My adventure has come to an end,” Renard announced on social media.

This marks the second national team coaching role the specialist has departed from within a few months, having been sacked by Saudi Arabia this spring, despite leading them to the North American finals.

Tunisia, despite their stated high ambitions in the last two World Cups, has yet to advance beyond the group stage and qualify for the knockout rounds.
