Young Liverpool midfielder Trey Nyoni shared his disappointment following the narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League, a match that marked his first start for the Merseyside club.
The talented midfielder highlighted that at a club of Liverpool's stature, every defeat hurts. He noted that the team put in a tremendous shift on the pitch and created clear-cut opportunities, but a lack of clinical finishing ultimately proved costly.
"Every defeat is frustrating. We had plenty of chances to score, but we didn't take them. Overall, we played a strong game and did a lot of good work, but football comes down to fine margins and today we were ruthlessly punished. We need to be sharper and start matches much more convincingly," Nyoni stated.
Nyoni added that with the attacking quality at the team's disposal, carving out chances was second nature, but failing to capitalize will always lead to punishment at the highest level.
While pleased with his personal milestone and earning a starting berth in such a high-stakes fixture, the midfielder put the team's result first.
"I'm delighted to have been trusted from the start in such a massive clash. I aimed to give my all, get on the ball as much as possible, and drive our attacks. I'm pleased with how I played individually, but getting the win was the main priority," the midfielder emphasized.
Despite the setback, the midfielder remains positive about the squad's development. He noted that luck simply deserted them in the decisive moments and called for a quick reset ahead of the upcoming challenges.
