Luke shaw was an important part of Southampton's campaign last season in the premiership, his outstanding display on the pitch against feared and reckoned strikers and goal scorers earned the 18 year-old reputation as a reliable play stopper.

He must have been transformed by the military playing style of erstwhile coach Mauricio Pochettino who just signed a 5 year deal at White Hart Lane. Shaw has been in the market for a transfer away from St. Mary ground, home of the Saints to one of the big premiership sides. but recent rumours suggest that the England Defender may go in the way of Pochettino to join the Argentinian at White Hart Lane.

Man Utd Manager Louis Van Gaal who declared his interest in the defender a week ago but put it off on the waiting list of other options after the contract extension of ace defender Patrice Evra, may have to activate his interest further if he wants the player in his back squad for next season. Chelsea have not made a transfer request yet but are close watching the deal from their end, to see if Man Utd would miss the opportunity of signing Shaw.

A statement credited to former Man Utd defender Gary Pallister says that ''He (Shaw) has that relationship with him (Pochettino) already.

''I heard Shaw saying how delighted he was to play for him and what he has done for his game. It could be a spanner in the works for United, who were said to be close to doing a deal for Shaw.

''If you have got that personal insight into a player and that personal relationship, it gives you an added advantage.''

Pochettino left Southampton because the club failed to assure him of retaining their best players; He wanted Europe action and Tottenham wanted a coach to revamp the team for Europe appearance next season. Moreso, the club wanted a coach who could interpret huge transfer spendings to on-field successes.

Already, 42 year-old Pochettino has been given an undisclosed amount of transfer fund to refurbish the Spurs team for Champions League.
