Just weeks after his move from Benfica to Brighton, Rodrigo Rêgo already has his destination set for the 2026/27 season. The 21-year-old Portuguese winger has been officially announced as a reinforcement for Castellón, joining on loan from the English club, which aims to secure more high-level playing time for the youngster.
Signed this summer from Benfica for €3.5 million, in a deal where the Eagles secured a percentage of a future sale, Rêgo penned a five-year contract with Brighton. However, the Premier League club opted to immediately loan him to the Spanish side, who compete in the second division and featured in the promotion play-offs last season.
The Seagulls' sporting director, Mike Cave, explained the decision: «We have high expectations for Rodrigo and are eager to see him get the opportunity to play regularly at first-team level. We will closely monitor his development throughout the season.»
Rodrigo Rêgo arrived at Benfica in 2022/23 from Famalicão, progressing through the junior, U23, and B teams before making his senior debut in November 2025 under José Mourinho. Last season, he made five appearances for the first team, including a UEFA Champions League outing against Ajax, in addition to 21 matches for the B team.
At Castellón, he will now have the chance to gain competitive rhythm and establish himself in Spanish professional football.
