Transfer Market Official: Inter Recruits English International from Liverpool
Inter Milan has officially announced the signing of English international midfielder Curtis Jones from Liverpool in a deal that could reach €35 million. The 25-year-old has penned a five-year contract with the Italian champions, valid until June 2031.
The transfer was finalized for a fixed fee of €30 million, with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons. The Reds also secured a clause entitling them to 10% of any future sale of the player, who came through the Merseyside club's academy.
In his first statements as a Nerazzurri player, the Englishman expressed his excitement about the move. "This is a club I've wanted to join for a while, so I'm thrilled," the midfielder stated. "I'm a Liverpool lad who came through their academy, but I've reached a point where I want to take the next step, and I believe this is the perfect club."
Inter's interest in Jones is not new. As early as January, the Italian side had proposed a loan with an option to buy, which Liverpool rejected. In June, the English club turned down a verbal offer of €25 million, as they valued the player, who had one year left on his contract, at £35 million (€40.85 million).
A product of the Reds' academy, which he joined at just nine years old, Curtis Jones made his senior debut in 2019 under Jurgen Klopp. In total, he made 228 appearances for the club and won seven titles, including the Premier League on two occasions. Last season, despite featuring in 49 matches, he started only 18 league games, struggling to secure a regular spot in midfield under Arne Slot.
In a farewell message posted on Instagram, the player reflected on his long association with the club. "After 16 years, it's time to say goodbye," he wrote. "This club is all I've ever known. I arrived here as a kid and leave as a man with my own family, which probably puts into perspective how much of my life I've spent here. Liverpool will always be a huge part of me. I came here as a child with a dream and leave having lived it."
Jones becomes the third English player to join Inter this summer, following John Stones and Djed Spence.
