The future of Sotiris Alexandropoulos remains uncertain. With one year left on his Sporting contract, a contract termination is reportedly on the table. The 24-year-old midfielder was set to join Gençlerbirligi in Turkey, but the transfer has fallen through.
Local media suggested the deal collapsed after the player failed his medical examination – a detail that has yet to be officially confirmed.
Signed in 2022 from Panathinaikos for four million euros as a replacement for Matheus Nunes, who had moved to Wolverhampton, the Greek international never managed to establish himself at Alvalade.
In his debut season (2022/23), he featured in just 14 matches. These were, in fact, his only official appearances in the green and white stripes.
In subsequent seasons, he endured a series of loan spells: returning to Greece with Olympiakos, moving to Belgian side Standard Liège, and most recently playing for Fortuna Düsseldorf in Germany's 2. Bundesliga.
The Greek international is now on the verge of ending his association with the Lions, but his next destination remains unknown for now.
