Transfer Market: Liverpool could seal permanent move for Barcelona defender in January
Ronald Araújo's future could be resolved much sooner than anticipated. Liverpool and Barcelona have initiated preliminary talks to explore bringing forward the permanent transfer of the Uruguayan international to the January window, according to British outlet TeamTalk on Monday.
The Uruguayan defender is currently on loan at Anfield from the Catalan giants under a deal agreed last summer, which runs until June 2027 and includes a non-mandatory €55 million purchase option set for the end of the season. However, both clubs are now actively exploring the possibility of wrapping up the permanent move immediately.

For the Blaugrana hierarchy, securing an early cash injection offers crucial financial breathing room, which could allow them to sign a new centre-back—ideally left-footed—to reinforce Hansi Flick's defensive options.
Liverpool have been delighted with the defender's impact. The Uruguayan international has already made 13 appearances, adapting seamlessly to the demands of English football and earning a prominent role in Andoni Iraola's side, featuring predominantly at right-back.
Looking to capitalise on Barça's need for liquidity, the Reds are aiming to negotiate a discount on the initial fee. Liverpool's proposed offer is between £40m and £45m (approximately €46m to €52m), arguing that executing the purchase six months ahead of schedule warrants a reduction.
Despite the gap from the originally agreed €55 million figure, an agreement appears well within reach, especially with Ronald Araújo fully on board. The player is enjoying his time in England and has already voiced his complete willingness to commit his future to Liverpool on a permanent basis.
