The mystery surrounding the Portuguese player Hull City owner Acun Ilicali hinted at has been solved. According to Sky Sports, Florentino Luís is in advanced negotiations to make a return to the Premier League, once again with a newly-promoted club, mirroring his move to Burnley last season.
The midfielder departed his formative club, Benfica, last summer. Initially, it was a loan deal until the end of the season, but it included a mandatory purchase clause worth 24 million euros, which was triggered based on performance objectives.
A year later, Florentino is on the move again, this time on another loan spell until the end of the season, with a purchase option set at 17.5 million euros, plus bonuses. Burnley's objective is to reduce their wage bill upon their return to the Championship. Benfica would also be entitled to a small fee if the transfer to Hull City materializes in a year's time, due to the solidarity mechanism.
Florentino could therefore join Hidemasa Morita, whose signing is yet to be officially announced, in the English side's midfield. In the 2025/26 season, the Portuguese-Angolan midfielder made 31 appearances in the Premier League, also contributing two assists.
