Carlos Baleba is reportedly on his way to Old Trafford. According to Sky Sports and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have secured the Cameroonian midfielder for a fixed fee exceeding €75.9 million (£65 million), plus an additional €5.8 million (£5 million) in bonuses.
The 22-year-old central midfielder has received permission from Brighton to travel to Manchester and is expected to undergo a medical within the next 24 hours, before signing a contract until 2031. The Seagulls have also secured a sell-on clause for a percentage of any future transfer fee.
Baleba has been a long-standing target for Manchester United... and for Ruben Amorim. According to reports in the English press in the summer of 2025, the Brighton midfielder was one of the key targets for the then-Red Devils manager to bolster the midfield, but the South Coast club had previously blocked any potential transfer.
A year later, Baleba is now set to reinforce United after making 35 appearances last season. The young midfielder is currently recovering from an injury sustained during pre-season.
Should these figures be confirmed, this will make him the eighth most expensive signing of the summer so far. You can review the top transfers (official deals only) in the gallery below:
Once Baleba's signing is finalized, the Red Devils will have surpassed €175 million invested in their midfield this summer. Touri Tielemans (€41M) and Andrey Santos (€59M) have already joined the club during this transfer window.
