Aston Villa took the lead late in the first half through Swiss international Johan Manzambi, who capitalized on a driven pass from Boubacar Kamara. In the second half, Nicolas Jackson and Emiliano Buendia extended the Birmingham side's advantage.

The "Spurs" thought they had found the net in the 60th minute thanks to Mohammed Kudus, but the goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR review. However, the home side eventually celebrated their first goals of the league season. In the 86th minute, substitute Conor Gallagher fired into the bottom right corner, and in stoppage time, defender Jan Paul van Hecke headed home to make it 2-3. Spurs remain winless in the new campaign, sitting 18th with two points.
