Tottenham Hotspur condemned "vile racism" directed at defender Kevin Danso on social media Sunday, after his late error gifted Brighton an equalizer that left the Premier League side in the relegation zone. The Seagulls scored in stoppage time when the 27-year-old Austrian international failed to clear the ball effectively, allowing Jorginho Rutter to level the score at 2-2. Still searching for their first league win of 2026, Tottenham sits 18th in the table with five matches remaining in the season.

"Kevin Danso has been, and continues to be, subjected to significant and disgusting racist abuse on social media," Tottenham stated in a declaration regarding the latest instance of racism, which remains alarmingly prevalent in European football. "We have heard and seen vile, inhumane racism. Behavior that is undoubtedly a crime will not be tolerated," the London club wrote.

The Spurs announced they are reporting the content to London's Metropolitan Police, other authorities, and social media platforms. British police are taking an increasingly firm stance against those found guilty of racism, with arrests and bans, but still struggle to eradicate it.

"We will push for the strongest possible action against any individual we identify," Tottenham added. "Kevin has our full and unconditional support as a player and as a person. No one at this club will ever face this alone. Nothing about our form or league position can excuse or explain racist abuse," the club's statement concluded.

Danso said he saw the comments directed at him over the weekend, as the Premier League promoted its "No Room for Racism" initiative. "Racist abuse has no place in this game or anywhere else. But it does not define me and it will not distract me from what is important. I know who I am, what I stand for, and why I play," he posted on Instagram.
