Toto Wolff Comments on Ferrari's Interest in Antonelli

Andrea Kimi Antonelli is rewriting the history books for Italian Formula 1 drivers this season, and the buzz around him in Italy is immense. His compatriots are convinced it's only a matter of time before Antonelli becomes a Ferrari driver.

“We are aware of Ferrari’s interest,” explained Mercedes boss Toto Wolff. “But Kimi has been a Mercedes driver since he was 11. Ferrari should have signed him six or seven years ago.”

“Now they realize there’s a good Italian driver in Formula 1. Of course, I know that Maranello will do everything they can to secure a good Italian driver.”

It recently came to light that Ferrari had the opportunity to bring Antonelli into their academy years ago, but then-Scuderia boss Maurizio Arrivabene declined.
