Yannick Cahuzac, appointed as the head coach of French club Lens following the departure of German Dino Toppmöller, will not just lead the team in the upcoming match against Monaco, but is set for a long-term tenure on the team's bench, stated the club's general manager, Benjamin Parot, as reported by AFP.

"When we give our trust, it's difficult to limit it in time. There's no concept of something temporary. Today, he is the first-team coach," Parot said at a press conference.

"It seemed obvious to us that at this moment, he is the right person to continue what we are doing," added Lens sporting director Jean-Louis Leca.

Yannick Cahuzac served as Olivier Pantaloni's assistant at Lorient last season, joining Toppmöller's staff this summer. This marks a return to Lens for him, where he captained the team as a player between 2019 and 2022.

Cahuzac stated he is ready for the away game against Monaco, who currently lead Ligue 1, while Lens has had a challenging start to the season, securing only four points from four matches. "I know the club inside out, I know its DNA, its values, I know the players. I believe there are many ways to lift the team," said the new coach.

Lens officials also addressed the swift departure of Dino Toppmöller, who left just three months after his appointment. "It didn't work out, and we must have the humility to admit it," Benjamin Parot commented.
