16-year-old Amie Cresswell married her boyfriend Omar Al Shaikh three days before he died. Shaikh was told by doctors that he had less than a week to live because of acute myeloid leukaemia.

The 16 year old lovers got married in a marriage ceremony at Shaikh's bedside. It was attended by friends and family. Cresswell wore a wedding dress and used a flower as a ring. "I’m absolutely heartbroken,’ she said yesterday. ‘We had talked about getting married but never imagined we would be 16. We thought we would grow old together. The ceremony was so sad, but really lovely" she said.

Last year during Easter Omar fainted during a football match. He was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia after.

In a twist of fate, his leukaemia went into remission when he started dating Amie. Eight months later his condition came back. "I had seen him around school a bit but we just got closer together. When he was told it had come back it was just a massive shock. I knew I wanted to stand by him through it all" Amie Cresswell said.
