Olamide, Lil Kesh, Phyno made the most reviling turn up song off this video
Walking through Olamide’s music is an exercise in emotional connection. You are captivated by the raps, and the beat is banging. And your emotions fly at every turn.
The singer who has successfully steered himself into the position of being the hottest rapper ever in the history of Nigeria, has been making music for various purposes, but everything falls into the category of generally educating, inspiring, and entertaining you.
Olamide does that with a wide range of influences that come from different sources. From classic Yoruba folk tales, songs and movies, the culture has provided him with enough raw material to harness and create amazing music.
Yoruba movies have been a very inspiring tool for the rapper. A number of his songs have directly been influenced by Yoruba movies and comedy skits.
A clear example is the 2014 single ‘Ladi’, off his joint album with Phyno, titled ‘2 Kings’. The song which was very polarizing, focused on cunnilingus (oral sex for females), where the three artistes in very blunt and candid terms, made cases for rejecting going down on their lover. The song which possesses a bouncy beat, and briefly ruled the dance circuits of Lagos nightclub, resonated deeply with many young people.
Many love it as equally as others hate it. It was a strong song.
‘Ladi’, the strong song, was inspired by a scene in a comedy movie. The scene which starred popular actors Baba Suwe and Sola Sobowale, had Sola’s character pestering Baba Suwe for some head game. Baba Suwe who is entirely averse to the idea of getting his tongue stained, made comical faces, and repeatedly used the words ‘Iranu’, and ‘Abasha’.
These words formed the basis of the chorus, and the entire dialogue was broken down and infused into the lyrics.
Talk about genius.
