"This hurts, we worked too hard to lose!" Wembanyama in shock, uttered only a few words after the loss /VIDEO/
Following the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history, the New York Knicks are now just one win away from the championship title.
It seemed the Spurs were headed for another road win and a convincing victory, holding a commanding 29-point lead, but they astonishingly let it slip away.
After the game, Victor Wembanyama, who finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds, gave a brief statement to the media.
He made it clear that the shocking loss was painful.
It hurt, of course. It feels like we worked too hard to lose our lead. It's just like that. It just hurts. Victor Wembanyama
Wemby One Flagrant Foul Away From Suspension
Beyond losing a game they had in hand, the Spurs could soon be without Victor Wembanyama, who is now just one flagrant foul away from an automatic suspension.
The French superstar was assessed a flagrant foul in the third quarter of Game 4 between the Spurs and the Knicks after striking Karl-Anthony Towns in the chin with his right elbow.
The incident occurred at the 9:27 mark of the third quarter. While guarding Towns on an offensive possession for the Knicks, Wembanyama suddenly elbowed Towns during a right-hand swing.
Towns remained on the floor after taking the hit, and the Frenchman was assessed a flagrant foul after officials reviewed the play.
Wembanyama was previously penalized with a Flagrant 2 foul and an automatic ejection after seemingly striking Minnesota Timberwolves player Naz Reid during Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals. However, he avoided a league suspension.
Victor now has three flagrant fouls in these playoffs, and the next one will trigger an automatic one-game suspension.
He also committed a questionable foul in Game 3 of the NBA Finals against Jalen Brunson. Despite reactions, the Spurs star was not penalized by the NBA.
