Patrick had earlier told the court to dissolve his marriage to Udoka, because she refused to take an oath of fidelity he wanted to administer to her to prove she was not cheating on him.

But Udoka said she didn’t want to die because in truth, she had a boyfriend because her husband was not treating her well and was in the habit of beating her. She, however, pleaded with the court not to dissolve the marriage, begging the magistrate to compel Patrick to allow her see her children whom he had prevented her from seeing.

“I deliberately decided to have a lover. My husband pushed me into the act. He doesn’t treat me right and used to beat me.

I’m afraid of the outcome of the oath because I’m guilty of the allegation. There was no sense in taking the oath,” Udoka confessed.

Her husband insisted he did not want her back unless she agrees to take the fidelity oath.

The case was adjourned till June 28, 2016.
