A gang of men, armed mostly with clubs, invaded the center in West Point, Monrovia while chanting “there’s no Ebola”.

Reports have it that about 17 patients who were infected with the disease ran away from the center in fear.

The looters were said to have stolen blood-stained sheets and mattresses and the incident has sparked fears of the disease spreading through the area, which is the city’s largest slum.

A witness, Rebecca Wesseh said:

"They broke down the door and looted the place. The patients have all gone,"

The incident was confirmed by the leader of the Health Workers Association of Liberia, George Williams who said:

"Of the 29 patients, 17 fled last night (after the assault). Nine died four days ago and three others were yesterday taken by force by their relatives"

The Ebola virus is spread through contact with bodily fluids of infected people and it has killed over a 1000 people in West Africa.
