The holiday was first celebrated in 1621 when the first pilgrims had a huge harvest from their farms. Native Americans helped the pilgrims to fish, hunt and plant crops. In 1620, the pilgrims landed in America rock for the first time and had to endure a harsh winter. This is why the holiday is called Thanksgiving, a celebration of the bountiful harvest.

3) It's an official public holiday

Thanksgiving was declared a national holiday in 1863 and is now one of the most famous American holidays.

4) Turkey is the official bird of Thanksgiving
