Szoboszlai: I See Myself at Liverpool Long-Term, But Not Everything Is in My Hands
Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has stated he remains calm about his future despite a lack of progress in new contract negotiations. The Hungarian international, whose current deal expires in just over two years, has been arguably the club's standout performer during a challenging season, contributing 12 goals and nine assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.
"There's no real progress, so I can't say anything new regarding my contract situation," he told reporters after Sunday's 2-1 derby victory over Everton.
"We have many games ahead, and I'm focused on them. As you know, my contract runs until 2028, so I'm ready to give my all every day, every week, and then we'll see what happens."
"Of course, I see myself here long-term, but not everything is in my hands anymore. I love being here. I love the fans. My family is happy."
"I'm completely calm. We have five more games. After that, I'll rest – a big break after my national team commitments. Then we'll see," he added.
Szoboszlai delivered the corner kick from which captain Virgil van Dijk headed home in the 10th minute of stoppage time at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, securing a dramatic 2-1 victory.
"The feeling was incredible," Szoboszlai added. "On Saturday, we practiced set pieces. I just crossed the ball into the box and hoped Virgil and Ibrahima (Konaté) would win it."
"To win a derby like that in the last second – we couldn't ask for more. We're happy for each other, but also for the fans, because we know what it means to them."
"A win always changes the mood, but we need to stay grounded and keep working hard. We must continue to fight for Champions League spots, and tough matches lie ahead."
Liverpool's next fixture is on Saturday against Crystal Palace.
