Christy Ucheibe shines as Benfica starts season with 6-0 win against Maritimo

Super Falcons of Nigeria star Christy Ucheibe was in action for Benfica this weekend.

The 21-year-old Ucheibe played a huge role as Benfica started their Campeonato Nacional Feminino campaign with a 6-0 victory against Maritimo on Sunday, September 12, 2022.

It was Uchiebe's first game back with Benfica as she was on international duty with the Super Falcons of Nigeria.

Uchiebe was part of the Super Falcons team that finished fourth at the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

She then featured for the Super Falcons in two international friendly fixtures against reigning FIFA Women's World Champions the United States of America (USA). 

Uchiebe sustained an injury playing for the Super Falcons in a 1-2 loss against the USA at Audi Field on Tuesday, September 6.

The Nigerian midfielder was however passed fit and included in the Benfica starting lineup against Maritimo by head coach Filipa Patão.

It would be a comfortable outing for Benfica as they took the lead through Marta Cintra as early as the fifth minute.

Cloé Lacasse scored the second as Benfica went to the halftime break with a four-goal cushion.

Autogolo scored the third in the 55th minute, and four minutes later Ana Vitória added a fourth.

Autogolo scored her second of the game and Benfica's fifth in the 67th-minute while Nycole scored the final goal of the game.

Benfica would record a comfortable victory and start the defense of their title on a positive note.

Uchiebe will return to action when Benfica travel to face Albergaria in their next league fixture scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 17, 2022.
