Akpoborie noted that the invited forward players will be aiming to grab the attention of Peseiro following the absence of a number of the first-choice strikers.
The one-time Stuttgart striker told Complete Sports: "This is one game that some of the invited players will be using to sink their names into the heart of the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro. However, one player that has really caught my attention is Taiwo Awoniyi."
Awoniyi has shone in Bundesliga, Premier League
Akpoborie explained that Awoniyi has carried over his good form from Bundesliga side Union Berlin during the 2021/22 season to his new side Nottingham Forest in the Premier League this season.
Awoniyi is now expected to show his qualities to impress Peseiro and the Super Eagles coaching crew in a bid to get his first minutes under the new Portuguese manager.
"This is a player that was scoring goals at Union Berlin before joining Nottingham Forest. And I expected him to be in the Super Eagles attack," Akpoborie pointed out.
"Well, this is another great opportunity for him and he must grab the chance to impress the new coach."
Awoniyi has scored two (2) league goals for Nottingham Forest this season, finding the back of the net against West Ham United and Fulham.
