Super Eagles defender Jamilu Collins was the star of the match on Saturday as Cardiff City saw off Norwich City in the English Championship.

The Nigerian left-back was playing his first league match in England's second division after completing a free transfer from German 2. Bundesliga side, Paderborn.

Jamilu Collins was rewarded with the Man of the Match award for his heroic defending contributions after Romaine Sawyers' 49th-minute goal gave Cardiff City the lead and the win. 

Jamilu Collins makes Cardiff City Championship debut

The 27-year-old Super Eagles defender was selected in Cardiff City's starting XI as he formed a back-four partnership with Cedric Kipre, Perry Ng, and Mahlon Romeo.

Collins was unfazed despite making his Championship debut in front of over 30,000 home fans at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Sawyers' grabbed the opener for Cardiff City in the 49th minute, finishing off Callum O'Dowda's assist as both teams came out of halftime blazing. 

Jamilu Collins marshal Cardiff City's defence after Ng's red card

As the hosts tried to hold back the Teemu Pukki-led Norwich attack, Cardiff City centre-back Ng was shown a second yellow card in the 73rd minute to reduce the home side to 10 men.

It was then that Jamilu Collins shone the most, helping Cardiff City to repel attack after attack from the visitors.

In all, the Super Eagles defender made six (6) clearances, seven (7) interceptions, one (1) tackle, and won nine (9) of the 16 duels he contested.

The former Paderborn left-back also contributed to the attack, completing 33 accurate passes (at 82.5% success rate), winning four (4) of nine (9) attempted dribbles and attempting two (2) crosses as well as three (3) long balls. 

Jamilu Collins will hope to continue his good start to life in England when Cardiff City travel to Reading on Matchday 2 of the English Championship.
