Stunning Pedri goal downs stubborn Sevilla as Barcelona move to second
Pedri was the hero after Barcelona secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over a stubborn Sevilla side to extend their unbeaten run to 15 matches at Camp Nou on Sunday night.
Despite keeping Barcelona's rampaging attacking trio of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Moussa Dembele and Ferran Torres quiet, Sevilla suffered their first La Liga defeat in 15 matches.
Barcelona came into the game having scored 27 goals in seven matches but their visitors, Xavi Hernandez side found out exactly why the team from Seville has conceded just 19 goals this season.
Sevilla came into the game having conceded the fewest goal in the league and for 71 minutes, it looked like Julen Lopetegui's men were about to be the first to stop Xavi's hugely improved Barcelona.
However, with 18 minutes to go, a moment of magic from Pedri finally broke Sevilla's resistance as the 19-year-old sold a dummy to three Sevilla defenders before letting fly a beautiful shot from just outside the box to put Barca ahead.
Barcelona held on to the lead to seal a deserved narrow win and all three points against a fellow challenger for a European spot.
With the result, Barcelona leapfrogged Sevilla to second on the La Liga table on 57 points, the same as Atletico Madrid in second, while Sevilla dropped to fourth.
