Deschamp marched up with his blues team against the Super Eagles in a match that sapped the two teams of strength and creativity, except for errors in the Nigerian defence, the result may have been different.

The former Monaco coach feels they are now fit for the next stage of the World Cup; quarter-finals where they take on Germany.

Though they won but Deschamp admits that it was a real battle and he was ''proud'' that they booked the ticket to the quarterfinals.

''Nigeria played a very physical game and had a real presence across the pitch.

''It was a challenge to go up against that, but we managed it. For an hour, the teams were pretty even, but then we were able to get the upper hand in the last half an hour.

''The Nigerians were tired, and they started leaving gaps in their defence. We were dynamic and quick when it mattered, while Nigeria were slowing down.

''This deserved win will make us even stronger for the rest of the competition. I’m very proud to have reached the quarterfinals,’’  Deschamp told FIFA.com
