Steph Curry Names Himself and Magic Johnson as the Two Greatest Point Guards of All Time
Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry has weighed in on the debate for the greatest point guard in basketball history, stating that the discussion ultimately comes down to just him and Magic Johnson. In a conversation with Gilbert Arenas, Curry confidently placed himself alongside the NBA legend.
When asked if he is the greatest point guard, Curry responded:
"Yes. It has to be me. It's me and Magic in that conversation."
With this statement, Curry made it clear that, in his opinion, only Earvin "Magic" Johnson belongs in the same tier when discussing the greatest point guards in NBA history.
Despite confidently ranking himself alongside the legend, Curry was quick to show respect for the career of the former LA Lakers guard.
"Magic's resume is amazing. The mere fact that we're even having this conversation is something I never imagined I'd achieve," the 38-year-old Curry shared.
Magic's career boasts multiple NBA championships, MVP awards, and one of the most dominant stretches in league history. By placing himself next to such greatness, Curry demonstrates how far he believes he has come.
Curry's self-assurance is backed by one of the most impressive resumes in modern basketball. He is a four-time NBA champion, a two-time MVP, and the only unanimous MVP in league history. Furthermore, he has 11 All-NBA selections, proving his long-term impact at the highest level.
His influence on the game extends beyond accolades. The shooting revolution Curry spearheaded transformed offenses across the league, with teams now heavily relying on the three-point shot as a primary weapon.
Even with his legacy already secured, Curry continues to chase further success. A fifth championship title would further solidify his position in the all-time rankings and add another major achievement to his illustrious career.
Last season, Curry played in just 43 games due to injuries, including a knee issue, but still posted strong numbers, averaging 26.6 points and 4.7 assists in his 16th NBA season.
However, the Golden State Warriors failed to reach the playoffs after losing to the Phoenix Suns in the Play-In Tournament.
