Spurs Snatch Wembanyama's Backup from Denver! Here's What Jokic's Team Got in the Trade
According to Shams Charania, a well-informed ESPN insider, the Denver Nuggets have traded their 26th pick to the Spurs in exchange for the 35th position and two future second-round picks.
San Antonio capitalized on this opportunity, drafting Taris Reed Jr. with the 26th overall pick.
Who is Wembanyama's new "bodyguard"?
Taris Reed Jr. (22) boasts an incredible collegiate career. After his first two seasons at Michigan, he transferred to UConn and became an absolute pillar of their interior defense under coach Dan Hurley.
This 6-foot-10 center arrives in Texas following a brutal senior season. He led the "Huskies" back to the national championship game, and during this year's March Madness, he posted frightening statistics – 19.5 points and 13.2 rebounds per game!
Reed was named to the All-Big East First Team this year and was also declared the Most Outstanding Player (MOP) of the NCAA East Regional.
Spurs Build a Wall in the Paint
There's no doubt that the Connecticut native will play a huge role in building San Antonio's bright future, forming a formidable tandem in the paint with Victor Wembanyama.
Interestingly, the Spurs didn't stop there when it came to adding "height." Before securing Reed, the Texans had already selected another prodigy from Kentucky with the 20th pick in the first round – 6-foot-10 Jayden Quaintance.
