Despite Fabrizio Romano's report on Friday linking Luis Suárez to Barcelona's attacking lineup, it appears the striker is not, in fact, on the Spanish champions' radar.
The newspaper Sport cites official sources within the Blaugrana club to refute the alleged interest in Sporting's Colombian international. Suárez, after participating in the World Cup, has had an unusual start to the season, marked by several controversies.
"Official club sources denied to Sport that the Sporting goalscorer is currently in their plans for the team's new sporting project, despite reports linking him with Barça," reads the publication from the neighboring country.
The same newspaper further adds that Suárez "was offered about two months ago" to Barcelona's sporting directorate. However, the Catalan club made no move for the player, who had been touted as an alternative to Julián Álvarez, the top target for Joan Laporta and Hansi Flick to bolster the number 9 position.
Furthermore, A BOLA reported earlier on Friday that the Sporting SAD had not received any approach from Barça for the striker, who, prior to joining Alvalade, represented Almería for two and a half seasons.
