The situation surrounding Daniel Bragança's departure from Sporting is proving difficult, with one of the interested parties, Greek club Olympiacos, reportedly close to withdrawing their interest. In recent hours, the Piraeus-based club has shifted its focus to Remo Freuler, a 34-year-old Swiss international who is a free agent after his contract with Bologna expired.

The midfielder is already in Athens to undergo the necessary medical examinations and sign a contract with the club owned by billionaire Evangelos Marinakis. Freuler plays in the same position as Bragança. It's worth noting that the Greek side already features former Famalicão player Gustavo Sá, who moved to Greece on loan from Nottingham Forest – a club also owned by Marinakis, which paid €20M for the young U21 international's transfer.

Complicating the deal is Sporting's demand of approximately €10M for the 27-year-old Bragança. The left-footed player is just one year away from the end of his contract, has not received any formal renewal offer, and has a delicate history of knee injuries. Therefore, the outcome of the footballer's future remains to be seen. He was not called up for the Lions' first two official matches (against Estrela da Amadora and V. Guimarães) and also missed the final pre-season friendly against Nottingham Forest.
