Real Madrid bans 17 fans for chanting anti-Messi slogans

Spanish league authorities (LFP) are looking to clamp down on hooliganism following the death of one fan in a La Liga game between Atletico Madrid and Deportivo La Coruna.

Real Madrid banned 17 of its fans for life for singing anti-Messi and anti-Catalonia songs in the club’s fixture against Celta Vigo on Saturday. The chants described Messi as ‘abnormal’ and a ‘bloody Catalonia’

LFP President, Javier Tebas reported the incident to the club as he maintained the league’s resolute stand on football hooliganism

''Our qualitative step forward or new commitment is that if the referee does not hear it we will draw attention to it. There were insults and unacceptable chants at the Bernabeu, so I gave the order to report them.

''I made a mistake in not seeing this as a problem in football and I won’t make it again.

''We have fattened up a monster which must be banished. We have taken this decision and we will continue down the same path,’’ Javier Tebas told Spanish radio station, Cadena Ser
