Topić, starting against the Nuggets (who were without Nikola Jokić for this game), played 39 minutes, tallying 14 points (4/9 from two-point range, 2/3 from three-point range), 11 assists, four steals (though also eight turnovers), and two rebounds.
Despite his impressive performance, the Serbian point guard remained grounded, emphasizing that he still has significant areas to improve in his game.
"It was okay. When my conditioning falters and the pace of the game becomes an issue, that's when I start making mistakes. I think I've said it before, it can only get better, and it already was better in this game. The energy was good; we tried to play tough on both ends of the court, but it didn't quite work out. A lot of guys weren't playing, and we tried to make the most of those minutes. We did a good job, and there's another game in two days, so we'll put this behind us and prepare as best we can for the next matchup," Topić stated.
The game against Denver marked Nikola's ninth NBA career appearance, and he is still adjusting to all the demands of playing in the world's premier basketball league.
"I want to get minutes and experience NBA games, the travel... Now we're traveling back home. That's going to be tough, and I'm trying to get as much as I can out of all of it and prepare for the playoffs as much as possible."
Oklahoma's final regular-season game is against the Phoenix Suns, presenting another opportunity for Topić to showcase his skills.
