Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was understandably delighted after his team's emphatic 4-0 victory over Osasuna. He lauded his squad for their consistent performance throughout the match, highlighting it as the cornerstone of their success.
“We always expect the best. Even in the first half, we hoped to be leading by more than one goal; the team worked exceptionally well across all areas of the pitch. In the second half, the team maintained that intensity and became even more effective. The scoreline makes it look easy, but everything is complex and fraught with danger. In previous matches, we also had some very good spells, but today we showed greater consistency for the entire duration. This allowed us to control the first half, and then be effective and dominant in the second,” Simeone stated.
He then shared his expectations for Cardozo.
“To play as he did today. And as he did against Real Sociedad. That’s how he makes the coach consider him a vital part of the team. I hope he can help us, because injuries prevented him from achieving consistency last season. I hope he can achieve it with the playing time he gets,” the Argentine added.
The upcoming derby against Real Madrid was, of course, a hot topic.
“I always see the team as competitive, and the match itself will show how far we can go. This game has absolutely nothing in common with Sunday’s. As you can see, the opponent has incredible attacking power, and it will be a completely different match. I select the lineups based on the opponent, and on Sunday, it won’t be the same. I do it according to the needs of the specific match,” Simeone concluded.
