In a development that could reshape the landscape of global basketball, the administrations of the NBA and the EuroLeague are engaged in advanced discussions, with all scenarios, even the most radical, remaining on the table.
Communication channels between the two premier basketball organizations appear to be rapidly strengthening. According to a report by The Athletic, a crucial meeting is imminent this week, aimed at exploring the groundwork for a strategic partnership that would foster the sport's growth in Europe.
Specifically, EuroLeague Basketball CEO, Jesus Bueno, is scheduled to meet with NBA Managing Director for Europe and the Middle East, George Aivazoglou. The meeting is expected to take place in Istanbul, likely on Thursday (April 9th), on the sidelines of the game between Fenerbahçe and Real Madrid.
The leadership change at the EuroLeague, with Jesus Bueno succeeding Paulius Motiejūnas, seems to have played a decisive role in bringing the two sides closer, bridging a long-standing divide.
“We believe everything is open, everything is on the table. I know what the NBA brings and I know how they would like to operate. So let's discuss. If it makes sense for the teams, why not?” Bueno stated to The Athletic, adding: “We are open to any scenario.”
