The average woman, they say, appears insecure when she feels the need to compete for “love” or attention. The reaction can be quite hostile and might even be deadly. I don’t mean to appear chauvinistic, but it’s just the way of the woman.
From all I heard (and all I have told you so far) one can argue that Ma’ami is showing signs of discontent with having another woman in Segun’s life. Doubtless, these are contradicting behaviors to when Ama first met her. So what changed?
My Analysis.
Here I am at my office having listened to Segun , Amarachi and Ma’ami’s views on the situation that is affecting their relationships.
A thought crossed my mind, Segun’s father. He had been non-existent since “this story “ broke. So I asked Segun , where is your dad ? He shrugged, “ I don’t know. Beijeing , Hong Kong , Spain ? He turned to his mother, “Ma’ami where is dad?” This innocent question was about to open “ Pandora’s box”.
The business Mogul is a busy man, he has wealth and fame to show for it and that’s a good thing. However, he has a very unhappy wife, who spent most of her married life alone, although she had every material comfort that she wanted; worse still, she had some delay in bearing a child, and after Segun , her ONLY child.
She had become dependent on Segun for attention, care and love, and he gave her these unfailingly. Until Amarachi.
Segun was astounded; Ama bewildered. He exclaimed “Ma’ami ! Haba ! This is my wife now; she can never be you “ then he whispered quietly “and you cant be my wife “. You would have thought that Ma’ami was dealt a strong blow. The tears flowed freely, from time to time, she wailed, like someone bereaved.
Segun felt a mixture of relief and guilt, he loved his mum, but he realized he needed to set boundaries. Ma,ami will always be his mother , and his wife is the love of his life.
Amarachi felt a mixture of guilt and shame, as well. Yes, the guilt of taking ma’ami’s “life’s situation Support”. It wasn’t her intention but she loved Segun dearly. She glanced at her precious son sleeping soundly, oblivious of happenings ; I kind of knew what she was thinking at that moment , a “deja vu”, if you will ).
Ama felt shame for the plots and plans of the past months , silent wars between ma’ami and her( you know how women can be ) , frustrations that Segun had to go through ; he was basically “stuck in the middle” !
Ma’ami is not a “monster” after all, she thought to herself , she is just a woman fighting for what she felt she was loosing , the only one she had . Amarachi got up and went to ma’ami kneeling before her (as is the Yorùbá custom). She spoke reassuring words that neither Segun nor I heard, but it must have had some effect because they both began to cry , locked up in an embrace.
It was a very emotional time, Segun was not dry eyed either, while I had to maintain my professionalism by showing empathy within boundaries. (Ah! The tough work of a Counselor).
After further sessions, reviews and follow-ups, there appeared to be peace in Segun’s home.
And lest I forget to mention, something happened a few days ago; I received a call from Segun’s dad, he “needed to talk”, he said… hmmm.. Hopefully there will soon be peace in Ma’ami’s home.
