CAF appoint Kenyan Omweno as referee for AFCON 2019 qualifier

Omweno is among the referees that were suspended by the African football governing body for three months for poor officiating in 2016.

The 34-year-old’s controversy involved him disallowing a goal scored by Libya as they lost 1-0 to Tunisia in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The Kenyan top official will have his compatriot Gilbert Cheruiyot as the first Assistant Referee (AR1 for the encounter while Mark Ssonko of Uganda is the Assistant Referee (AR2).

The game at the Stade Linte in Seychelles is the first game for the Super Eagles after they crashed out in the group stages at the World Cup in Russia.

The Super Eagles and Seychelles at the two bottom teams in the group following a loss in their opening encounter.

Seychelles lost 5-1 away to group leaders Libya, while the Super Eagles lost 0-2 to South Africa at home.

The game between the Super Eagles and Seychelles hold on Saturday, September 8 kick off : 2:30 PM.
